When BBC “The One Show” came to Plantos Nursery

It is not every day you get a call from the BBC wanting to come to the nursery! We have had visits in the past from Rt Hon Mark Drakeford and other Welsh Ministers but this was slightly more exciting for everyone!

On Friday the 5th of February 2021, a small team of three visited the nursery along with their cameras and sound equipment. They arrived at 7am after having travelled from London on that same morning. They were fully briefed of our Covid measures as we have not been allowing anyone into the nursery. Visitor forms were completed, we kept our distance, wore face-coverings, used anti-bac gel and refrained from offering coffees which was difficult. Most of the session was spent outside in the garden as the sun was shining and it actually felt as if Spring had finally arrived!

The purpose of the visit was to find out more about the steps we have had to put in place as a nursery to deal with minimizing the risk of Covid. As schools have slowly started reopening in the UK, the segment was on how we as a nursery have had to deal with this for a year already.

Both managers were interviewed in depth by The One Show presenter, Ashley Jean-Baptiste. Our managers explained how we have had to adapt to the new norm and how many new procedures and systems have been put in place in order to minimise the risk of infection and spread. Also, how our team on a personal level have become vital key workers and put their own health at risk by being in close contact with their bubble of children. We are all so grateful to the team who have worked tirelessly to keep the children happy and entertained during these lockdown periods. Extra precautions and a new way of working are now part of our daily routine. The risk will always be there but we will always try our very best.

What we must remember through all of this is that all the children have loved being back with their friends and peers. Some had not seen another child for months and it has been truly heart warming to see how children basically just want to play, socialise, explore and have fun.

We are proud, that we at Plantos have been a part of that journey for the families we know. The feedback from parents has been absolutely lovely and genuinely appreciated. Thank you!
